Promise 100 drivers hard to install win98se
does anyone know the right dir to click on first?

promise 100 f6 hard to find files

I have the promise files from Promise and f6 did not find them same
thing for win98se on 2 computers I had to hit and miss 10 times before
I hit the right one in the right dir on the promise floppy win 2000 dir

and win98 dir


in my win2000 dir is says ultra ultra ultra.sys so I have to click on
all 3 or what when I put in the floppy at f6 and I dont think win2000
lets me lick on all 3 directries to find the file...?

You do not have a valid set of drivers for your device under Windows 98.
Download the correct drivers from the manufacturer's Web site and they
should automatically be detected and installed by pointing the wizard at the
directory that they were extracted to.

I'm assuming that the Promise is a card, rather than an on-board controller?
You cannot install Win9x systems onto a bare Promise controller, IIRC
The drivers cannot be installed in the same way as they are for WinXP

Promise web but when win ask for the driver I have to click and click
on the different directories files 10 times before win finds the one it
wants... do you know which of the above to click on the 1st time?

I think I may see what the problem is!
You need to EXTRACT the files from the ZIP file - and ensure that the
inherent folder structure is preserved.
I suspect that either you have not properly extracted the files, or not
extracted them at all

If you don't see file types in your folder, then...

START button, Settings, Folder Options, View tab.
Bolt "Show all files" & UNcheck "Hide file extensions..."

If your on a W2K computer then naturally you only point it to the Win2000
folder from the zip extract.

Same for Win9x-Me and WinXP - there's nothing that could be more simple
really. You don't need to click on any files at all, but when you are in
the right mode - just point the wizard to the folder - and it will do the
rest.

It's just a matter of knowing what to do with it that's all, and of course
being sure you have the right drivers in the first place.

They are the same files but just different versions of them for each OS.

You ..don't even need to be concerned abut what files are in each folder at
all, You only to be sure you have the right version drivers for the card,
and you Only need to be concerned with at the prompts to point them to
right folder representing what specific OS you are on at the moment -
that's it !

First of all what is the Exact model of your card?

.....if.... it's the plain 100 (not tx2) this is the files you need for it;
oh I see they don't have the pages up for the regular 100 anymore - it's g
etting too old, but the old links that I had are still active and you can
get to it he

The latest 'Windows driver' for a 100 (not tx2) card needs to be v2.00.0.39

The latest 'Bios Flash' for 100 (not tx2) card needs to be v2.20.0.14

Don't even think about flashing the bios though (even though it's easy)
unless you know what you're doing.

Yes the install for 2K/XP is a bit different than 9x, depending on which
way you do it and at what timepoint in the OS install you are attempting
it, but it's all pretty easy, however more information is needed of
what you are doing - but in all cases first of all maybe rtfm

That 100 card is way out of date btw, and depending on what you are doing,
especially if you are using a large hard drive (even though the
bios/drivers given will still work with it - it may be time to update to
the ultra133)

did get the driver loaded once on f6 but got a ad virus my first hour
on the web with 2000 looking for 2000 set up info and updates etc tried
a few more times in next few months and never got the f6 to install the

booted the 2000 cd more than 25 times last time I tried and never got
past the f6 - did not find hard drive controller or something like
this. So 1 more question where is the ultra.xxx suffix for 2000 I down
loaded the drivers link above and its the exact same files I have?

Rick could I rename the ultra in win 2000 ultra.mpd ?

Do you run win 2000 or 98? or both ?
