Default Iphlpapi.dll file error at start-up

I frequently receive the error message "Iphlpapi.dll file
cannot start" when I start up my computer.

I have checked and the three dll files on my pc say they
are installed and working correctly.

Comcast is my ISP.

Any suggestions? I have contacted Dell; but they were not
too helpful as my extended warranty has run out and they
tried to get me to buy a new pc! Other than this problem,
my pc runs great!

Any suggestions? Thank you.

That you have 3 copies of iphlpapi.dll on your system is no doubt part of the
problem.

When did this problem start? What changes did you make to your system just
prior to this problem starting?

For many users this problem is caused by installing AOL9 since AOL 9 uses a
different version of iphlpapi.dll than is included with Win Me and fails to
install it correctly. You can check this for yourself where you will find
that AOL have put a version of iphlpapi.dll in the Program Files\Common
Files\AOL\ACS\winme folder which differs from that in the windows\system
folder.

Since the copy of iphlpapi.dll in the windows\system folder is protected from
alteration or deletion by Win Me's System File Protection (SFP) it cannot
simply be replaced by the copy in the AOL folder. Whilst there are ways of
defeating SFP so that AOL's file can be added to the system folder I
personally feel this is a problem that needs to be remedied by AOL.

If your problem is a result of installing AOL 9 you may want to consider using
System Restore to solve this problem by rolling back your system to before the
problem started and dumping AOL 9 until AOL can get things working correctly
(just don't hold your breath) provided that that was not more than a few days
ago.

Thanks for such a quick reply! Well this problem started
when my pc caught some type of virus (at least that is
what the dell tech told me must have happened) and this
was 14 days before my extended warranty ended. We worked
together for over 8 hours via telephone wiping out
everything on the computer and reloading as if it
were "fresh from the factory". I don't use AOL, and have
used comcast for over a year now. This problem began in
May. It is intermittent, but still a pain. The next dell
tech I spoke with said it could be a memory problem. I
checked the memory, and I unless I did it wrong, I have
plenty left. I am thorougly confuse.

I do appreciate your reply, wish it was the answer I
needed! Thanks.

I took your advice and looked for any aol files/folders
tht may have been on the the pc. There were none at all.
I remember I took them all off because aol was such a pain
in the but and comcast is a dream to use.
