Default Forte' Agent V1.92 and Verizon DSL

Hi,

I have used nothing but Dial-Up for many years. I have scheduled
Verizon DSL service to begin Nov 4. Note: I will use one Win98se computer
with Ethernet cable from a NIC to a Verizon DSL modem/router.

Although I use a very old version of Forte's Agent V1.92 (registered),
which always does everything I want, I do not have a desire to get a newer
version.

I sent an email to Agent's support regarding using this version with DSL,
but the response I have received so far was for me to get the new version of
their Agent.

My version of Agent was released at a time when Dial-Up was the normal
way to access the Internet.

Do you know if I can use this version of Agent with DSL?

Thank You in Advance, John

Why would you even think otherwise? If you haven't grasped by now (from the
other thread) that the TCP/IP protocol works for all systems with an ability
to use it, maybe no-one can convince you that a program that uses email
protocols (pop3 and smtp) and Usenet (nntp) will still do so. Changing
programs depends on how much you want new things added to them, but it is
VERY hard (as in impossible) to take away code from an old program that has
sat in someone's house for years. If it worked then it will work now unless
something really big changes so even the most basic framework is torn down.
The more basic the program, the more true this is. A new fast internet link
will likely make it seem to work better.

As far as a network client is concerned, unless it has specific need to do
so, it will have no clue about the difference between DSL and dialup, all it
sees is your OS's network stack. I'm not even sure it sees much of that.

Actually it CAN be done with a new installer that deliberately removes files
the supplier doesn't want you to have...

Early programs were less likely to be made to serve strange agendas by
suppliers than they are now though, it used to be more important to win
people over with good behavour in an uncertain world (the net was newer
then). If you want to be sure no firm messes with your software, don't accept
auto or web installers, do it manually if possible. And keep installers of
stuff you like so if snyone really does interfere) or you think they might
have done it) you can be sure of keeping it as YOU want, not as they want it.
