Default USB Root Hub

I have a Dell Computer running WIN98se and use a USB
device - an HP ScanJet 4200C. I've used this scanner for
over 2 years with no problems. All of a sudden it quit
working. Device Manager shows USB Root Hub: The
NTKERN.VXD device loader(s) for this device could not load
the device driver (code 2). I have searched for new
drivers, reinstalled the existing drivers, tried removing
the hardware & reinstalling it - nothing works..any ideas?

Hi Pam, I have the same problem (see my message "Could Not Load the Device
Driver" on 6/3/04) and have tried every fix I can find on the Microsoft
site. I hope someone has an answer for us. Did your system lock up or give
you any errors before the USB ports stopped working?

Hi, Gregg; My system didn't lock up, but the scanner would
not respond when I tried to scan and then I got some error
messages about windows not being able to locate the
scanner...it's been awhile, so I'm not sure I remember. I
went thru Dell's support center and tried all the
suggestions I could find there, but nothing worked. I
really do hope someone comes up with an answer. It's so
weird, because it worked fine for over 2 years!

Same problem here. All USB devices function correctly with the
exception of a mp3 player driver for Creative Muvo NX. It worked fine
and all of a sudden stopped working and gets a load error code 2. I
suspect Microsoft screwed something up in one of their security
updates. I guess I should feel lucky that most of my devices work.
Pretty smooth way to force folks to go to XP.
