Default Requesting solutionsWin98 problems

I am using Windows 98 SE since couple of years. After some time of
use, often windows gets corrupted. Then PC needs frequent rebooting or
else windows crashesh frequently or stops responding.
Inspite doing Scan Disk or Defrag,no significant improvement is seen.
In this case most of the software/hardware consultants advice to
format C drive and reinstall Win 98 SE.However this is very time
consuming and like a nightmare.
1.Which measures I should take to have hasslesfree performance
without format,rebooting and reinstallations?
2.Is there any FREE,but reliable registry Cleaner , if so where can I
get it?
Thank you in advance.

So long as you are sure you are virus free etc. just
reinstal the OS. It takes about 40 min.: no nightmare.]

/ start / run / REGEDIT.EXE
(1) Save the Registry in case you need
to restore it
(2) Scroll through the keys
and delete all you are positive are either
absent or unwanted or harmful.

There are no good registry cleaners out there, imo. A user must study the
registry in depth to figure out how to edit it and always have a back-up if
they make a mistake and erase a critical registry entry.

: no, formatting is the fastest way of fixing problems! and i suggest u use
: it once a month even if u dont have problems because it makes the pc run
: much faster
:
: trial and error is more comsuming and serious problems cant usually be
fixed
: by fixing the registry or reinstalling some problems !

If the user is smart and has their system well-figured out then they can
format and reinstall about every three years and I usually aim for that goal.

: Find a web source trusted by many users e.g.

: and then clean up your system. I think Mr.Badour
: says somewhere you need to reinstal less often
