About computer resolution. And Problem with Word.
Hi,
I have a problem with my laptop computers. The one is a Dell latitude and the other is a Toshiba lapotp. The problem with the dell and the toshiba is their resolution does not want to work properly. The screen area does not change. It is 640x480 pixels and i want to make it to be 1024x769 pixels. But any time i restart my computer, it will give me a worning that the driver in not configure properly and will return back to 640x480 pixels. The other problem is in microsoft Word. When ever I open and type a word, the whole sentence will be in black colour and the cosour will be blinking in white. Thanks. |

Do both laptops have their display drivers installed? Are
they updated? Try reinstalling them. |

The other problem is in microsoft Word. When ever I open and type a word, the whole sentence will be in black colour and the cosour will be blinking in white. Thanks. . Hi the I am no computer genious but just started taking computer programming and did read about computer and resolution and its relation to the RAM in the video card. If your video card does not have enough memory for the amount of resolution and pixels you want, then it will auto= matically adjust itself down. Times your color resolution together 1024 times 769= 787456 pixels on your screen. Multiply that number by how many bits of color you are using. ie. if you are using 256 colors you multply that by 8 bits. 64, 000 colors is 16 bits, 16,000,000 colors takes 32 bits. So whatever color you are using, multiply the bits by the pixels. If you are using 16 bits, multiply 787456 by 16 = 12599296. We divide that by 8 bits and round it off to get how many megabites of ram your video card needs to run on that particular setting. 12599296 divided by 8 = 1574912 (round off to 1.6 and you get 1.6 megabytes. Your video card should work on those settings if it is a 2 megabyte video card. If you want higher resolution and more pixels on your screen you will need a video card with more RAM in order to get what you want on your screen. I calculated the settings I would like for my screen with the highest possible resolution and pixels and disovered I need a 8mg RAM video card and only have a 2mg RAM card at this time. Hope this helps Maleesa |

It's 1024x768 not 769.
And 16bit color is 65536 (to be specific 1024x768 @ 65k 16bit color needs 1.5mb video memory. Goto : Control Panel Display Settings Advanced and check how much memory your display adapter has. Some laptops share memory with the rest of the system; there might be an option to give it more ram in the BIOS. I was planning to use an old noname card for multimonitor to discover that it only has 0.5mb memory |
