IE6 Setup
Running Win Me. Every time I try to install IE6sp1, I get a message that a
previous installation is pending and to reboot to complete. I do, but then get the same message when I try to install it again. I've cleared my cache and deleted the setup program, downloaded it again, same results, both downloading to disk and running from source. Making me crazy, know what I mean? Any suggestions? Thank you. |

It may be that you have a program which is creating a WININIT.INI file every
time you boot the PC (such files can be the result of malware action - so a scan of your PC with an anti-virus and an anti-spyware app would be a good idea!) look for the file C:\Windows\WININIT.INI - if you find it, open it up in Notepad and see what it references - it should give you an idea what's causing it. rename the file to WININIT.JNK and then try the install again. If Noel's suggstion doesn't help, try this: Go to My Computer - Tools - Folder Options - View: - Select "Show hidden files and folders", click Apply - OK Create a folder named "Old uninstall". Go to folder C:/Program Files/Internet Explorer/Uninstall Information. Now Edit - Select All - Cut all files. Open "Old uninstall" folder and paste the files. You will now be able to install all the troublesome components. If everything works as expected, you can delete the "Old Uninstall" folder and the files you moved.
