Windows 98 Re-install

Hello,

I had a virus infection on my computer which I cleaned up
using anti-virus software. The virus infection made
Internet explorer 5.5 corrupt. When I tried to re-install
Microsoft Internet explorer 6.1 after that and re-started
my computer, I got the following error message:
Widnows cannot replicate install of %1 to %2.

Now i cant even start up windows. I am thinking of
restoring Windows 98 through my OEM's CD. Will this wipe
out all of my older applications and data files on my
computer?
