Default Virus software problem

I have been having all sorts of problems but what I need
help with right now is my virus software. I ran system
restore and now Norton is gone I tried to undo my last
restore but still no Norton, I tried to re-install it and
I get the following message "The setup has detected that a
previous install or uninstall has been completed but
requires a restart. Please restart your computer then
launch the setup again" I have restarted it several times
and tried to install Norton but I keep getting the same
message. Can anyone help PLEASE. Thanks

What version of Norton?

Norton 2004 has proven to be very problematic with WindowsMe and may
in fact be incompatible with it.

There are removal tools available from the Symantec web site which
will completely remove Norton products from your system. There are at
least a couple of different versions so you will need to get the right
one. I believe that the one that removes 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2003
is called RNAV2003.EXE but I am not sure of the exact name for the one
to remove NAV2004.

Good luck
