Is it possible to do this?
First let me apologize for my lack of technical
expertise/terminology. A few months ago I had to reformat my hard drive and reinstall programs. Doing this set me back to the year 2000 and I had to update lots of drivers plus reinstall the many, many Windows Updates including getting back to IE6. I fear there may be another hard drive reformat looming and I'd like to know if there's a way in WinME to backup the current drivers, Windows Updates, etc. and then reload them. If so, how do I go about it? I have a CD burner so maybe I could save them on a CD?? Thanks in advance for any help! Vickie |

What makes you think another reformat is looming, perhaps if you post back
here with your problems this can be avoided as it is usually a last ditch attempt to try. Below are a couple of links to look at if you go that way. http://www.btinternet.com/~winnoel/reinME.htm http://www.aumha.org/win4/a/clean.htm I don't have the link to hand but you can order a CD from Microsoft that includes all updates to October03 then there wouldn't be so many to get. Below is a link to look at so you can get updates to burn to CD. courtesy of MikeM. Joan The easiest way to save updates is to use the Windows Update Catalogue. This can be done from any PC which need not be running Win Me. Select Windows Millennium as the operating system and download and save the required updates. To access the Windows Update Catalogue you will need to visit the WindowsUpdate (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/) site and choose in the left hand pane to "Personalize Windows Update" and then check the box in the right hand pane to "Display the link to the Windows Update Catalogue". Save Settings and now click the new link to the Catalogue that has been added to the left hand pane. MS KB 323166 - "HOW TO: Download Windows Updates and Drivers from the Windows Update Catalog" (http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=323166). Alternatively you can ask Microsoft to send you a copy of the free Security Update CD. See http://www.microsoft.com/security/protect/cd/order.asp --? Is it possible to do this?
Hi - thanks for answering! My problems all seem to stem from when I installed NAV2004 several months ago. All kinds of things went wrong -- most error messages referred to NAV2004 components. I had an email dialogue going with them for months and months; their website is a nightmare and everything they suggested always led to the same thing: changing something in the Registry, which I'm not about to try! Blue screens of death were common. Sooo.... after checking out other A-V software I decided to uninstall NAV2004 (for the 7484736th time!) last week and go with something else: V-Com's System Suite5, which has A-V from Trend Micro plus lots of other utilities & stuff. That really messed things up so now I've uninstalled System Suite 5 and I also did a System Restore back to the day before I purchased it. (NAV2004 shows up in Add/Remove Programs again but it isn't running - guess I'll have to uninstall it again.) Last night I downloaded & ran Stinger, something I'd never heard of but discovered from other posts here. Sorry to be so long, and maybe I still didn't even answer your question!?! Thanks again for your help. |

Glad to see you are getting rid of Norton as it plays havoc with WinME
especially the 2004 version, it just isn't compatable. There are AV programs that don't cause so much trouble, you could always try AVG from Grisoft it is free and many here use it. Post back if you need any more help. Joan Vickie wrote: Hi - thanks for answering! My problems all seem to stem from when I installed NAV2004 several months ago. Vickie.......Nav 2004 was the *kiss of death* for your computer. WinME does
not co-exist with it. Why not try the free AVG antivirus proggie for now......instead of paying for ones that don't work out. It is at www.grisoft.com Oh.....and do a search for anything that has the words Norton or Symantec on your hard drive and delete them. There is a long 3 page article at Symantec on how to remove Norton entirely, btw. Cheers.....Heather "Vickie" wrote in message ... Hi - thanks for answering! Is it possible to do this?
Hi! Thanks for answering! Sorry I'm late in replying;
couldn't get the message to expand - just one problem among many. Here's what I've been doing: Since the items in my control panel disappeared plus System Restore came up as a blank window, in desperation I reinstalled Windows Me yesterday! Scary, but seems to have worked okay. I had tried to reinstall NAV2004 but installation hit an error and aborted; then I couldn't get it to continue installing and I couldn't uninstall what was there!! By much digging around in the Symantec website (which I HATE) I finally got all portions of NAV2004 uninstalled. On someone's recommendation I tried to download the free Panda A-V. The second the download completed, I would get knocked off the internet - happened twice. Don't know what was up with that. Anyway, I now have AVG and all seems to be working well. Do you know if NAV2004 works okay with Windows XP? Just wondering, in case we ever upgrade to XP. Thanks again for answering!! |

What is this fixation people have, that Norton is the answer to all their
problems???? It's more often the CAUSE of them!! FYI, NAV2004 has less problems with XP than with ME - which is NOT to say that it has none!! -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2004, Win9x) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.btinternet.com/~winnoel/millsrpch.htm http://tinyurl.com/6oztj Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's "Vickie" wrote in message ...
