I answered this already in another newsgroup,
microsoft.public.win98.internet. Here it is again. Please choose one or the other newsgroup to post any reply, but not both. I'd prefer if you use this one. It's a program installed by PeoplePC, and it's not needed. Use MSCONFIG to disable the item and see if the error disappears and also see if you have any remaining problems (test several sites with IE, use OE to Send/Receive mail, etc.) If no problems result from disabling Bartshel, return for instructions on permanently preventing it from starting up with Windows. Unless you're going to switch from ad and spyware-laden PeoplePC to something more sane, do not uninstall any of its components. StartRunMSCONFIGenter Look on the Startup tab for the Bartshel item, uncheck it, click OK and restart when prompted. -- Gary S. Yup! I'd forgotten about that. I had other contacts with Angel and while she
seemed to think that problems remained after disabling Bartshel, and had re-enabled it, I convinced her to try it again, and this time it fixed the problem with no noticiable side effects other than positive ones. She is currently a happy camper, even after her monitor started dying. She would have had to do without a monitor for a couple of weeks and pay shipping from the East to Southern California, and we were just getting ready to process the RMA when some other kind soul in her locality made her an offer she couldn't refuse. A new monitor for not much more than the shipping she would have had to pay. -- Gary S. Thanks for the update on that thread. I recall now that you were helping Angel a
bit off-list, and I'm glad to hear things worked out for her. Also, it's good to know disabling Bartshel was an acceptable fix for her problems. Now if you can just convince her to get rid of PeoplePC altogether..... eg -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP Shell/User, A+ http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm "Gary S. Terhune" wrote in message ... Yup! I think that when this month runs out (she just paid the bill) she'll be
switching to ATT. I'm gonna bug her about it, you can be sure, s. I was even more amazed to find out that she's been paying an extra couple of bucks per month just for the privilege of receiving phone support! Can you just imagine what that "support" consists of?!? -- Gary S. Hi Gary,
The one that came to my rescue about the monitor was a company man from the Hansol company that made me an offer I could not refuse. He is one of the managers and the Monitor came from Texas and will have a 3 year warrantee on it. I received it today. About ATT: I called today. I did not sign up yet. They said that there is some advertisements. There is a 12 month contract You have to buy a modem. If I sign up with them I will do it around October 26th. I will have to change a lot of addresses to have it go into my yahoo box. I also found out why my mail was going to that other mailbox. I think they have that corrected. I hope so. I posted another message note at "Result from Avast! Virus Scan" title asking about another way to delete the Temp. file. that I thought about. please read. Angel "Gary S.
