Exclamation Internet Explorer

I Downloaded (using My Desktop) An Updated Version Of Internet Explorer To Install On My Laptop Running Win 98. I Got An Error Message - Unable To Use Current Proxy Server Settings - Network May Be Busy. The Laptop Is Not Connected To Internet. Must You Download To The Computer That Will Be Using Internet Explorer.

I think what you have downloaded is the IE installer. This is a short
program that you download, run on your local system and it figures out
what new components you need for your particular installation and
downloads them from the update site on the fly.

For a completely local install you need to download the full version
of the update. there should be a link to it on the update site.

You can download Internet Explorer without installing it, but the newer=20
versions will not fit on a single floppy. See
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=3D174680 .
Also, many freely distributed CDs, like those sent out by AOL and MSN=20
contain complete copies of IE. Look for "ie5setup.exe" or =
"ie6setup.exe".
