Updating CA
OK, this is the first time you even mentioned that you are using OE and POP
for this. Your question was about a CA in the browser. I do not support Hotmail, and especially so since the recent change. I suggest you start with the info posted in this group on June 2, by MS-MVP (PA Bear) Robear Dyer...pasted below: I already went through all that with Dyer and this is probably the last attempt to get the @#%$ thing working for the outgoing smtp server with authentication. Thanks again though, |

Pointing out a link to what you were supposed to have configured does not comfirm what you are actually set at... Also, did you check your firewall and any email checking programs [such as AVAST's .ini] to make sure you have set them properly for the new mail clients. You mention authentication,,, what have you got checked... -- ~ -- MEB http://peoplescounsel.org/ref/windows-main.htm Windows Diagnostics, Security, Networking http://peoplescounsel.org The *REAL WORLD* of Law, Justice, and Government _______ |

Jim, why did you begin another thread about this problem, especially
when you haven't told all of the story? Please stick with your original thread in OE General newsgroup: http://groups.google.com/group/micro...7d3a1d79048b0f -- ~PA Bear On Jun 22, 9:10*pm, "Jim" wrote: I installed the update, it did not solve the authentication problem in WLHotmail smtp outgoing server which is blocking sending on that server SNIP |

I think it is a Hotmail problem. I do have a shortcut link to the website Windows Live Hotmail. I have tried to access the Online Solutions Center with no luck in posting or replies at that website. All I can figure is a CA needs updating for ssl/tls connection and authentication. Two last questions I have a It has been circulating around Wikkipedia that if the CA root set is preinstalled on windows OS, the certificate will reinstall if requested by an outside source; True/False? If I reinstall/repair IE the root set preinstalled will reinstall; T/F? These I am not certain. snip |

Might want to explain in OE General what "use secure authentication" means verses SSL/TLS connections [I didn't read the whole discussion so maybe you already did]; and remind him that if an individual site OFFERS/requires a security certificate it can be installed *upon access* [e.g., for GoDaddy, Live, etc.]... and as noted over there, disabling the anti-v message check does not mean its not running [such as AVAST'S proxy runs regardless - can be tested by running filemon] so the .ini [mentioned] check should be added to the firewall, router, and other checks [ports/etc. which you probably already did..]. Sorry to butt-in here.... just brain activity leaking out... And just to pitch a biach,,, wonder why Microsoft/Live just didn't use IMAP... pop is so clunky... -- ~ -- MEB http://peoplescounsel.org/ref/windows-main.htm Windows Diagnostics, Security, Networking http://peoplescounsel.org The *REAL WORLD* of Law, Justice, and Government _______ |
