Bios disabled?
I went back to my old computer after a few months on my new one. At that time I
removed only the hard drive. So now, with my new one on the sidelines, I thought of putting back the hard drive, which I had made a slave on the new. It was partitioned and thats all. Now, when i tried to boot the system, I get a message that the Bios is disabled. I went into the bios and could not find any area where one can enable it..if there is such a place on the Bios. In the meantime I tried a system disk, got as far as Fdisk and got a message that it found no fixed disk. I did set it as a master this time. I know there is nothing wrong with the hd. BTW, I went to another newsgroup for hardware and all I saw was sex messages and the Osama virus..a total of 8 posts. So I hesitated in entering this post there. This is for the benefit of those who may have nothing but criticism for those entering post in the wrong newsgroup. I do have Win98se. |

Bios disabled?
You say you have the jumper set as master now. Have you connected it with a power
cable, and a data ribbon cable attached to the Primary IDE controller on the motherboard? Also, have you set the Primary IDE to Auto in the BIOS setup? Have you then done IDE Autodetection, if that option exists in your BIOS? What BIOS and version is it? -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP W95/98 Systems http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm "Anthonage" wrote in message ... I went back to my old computer after a few months on my new one. that appears when the machine is turned on? -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (DTS) "Anthonage" wrote in message ... I went back to my old computer after a few months on my new one. Is it SCSI or IDE?
Is the hard drive controller integrated on the motherboard, or a separate controller card with its own BIOS? What type of hard drive is it? Have you recently flashed the BIOS on that computer? -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP W95/98 Systems http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm "Anthonage" wrote in message ... Bios disabled?
I have never seen that message. I can think of three possibilities.
The BIOS it refers to is not the motherboard BIOS, but is something like a SCSI hard disk controller BIOS. In this case the message is probably correct and can be ignored, unless you want to boot from a SCSI hard drive. It is an odd way of saying that the BIOS has been password protected, and it actually means that BIOS access has been disabled. It's a virus. -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (DTS) "Anthonage" wrote in message ... It's not possible to disable the BIOS. What is the exact (verbatim) message that appears when the machine is turned on? I do have a controller card installed that is suppose to give me my total useage of a 40 gig hd. The original Bios is limited to 32 gigs. I did try to reinstall the software for the controller card...but something is preventing me in doing so. I keep getting message that no Fixed hd found. Last time I used this computer, prior to removing the hd and controller card, it was working just fine..no virus. |
