Default 98 won't start

I uninstalled gozilla and it messed up the registry. It deleted the
COMMAND folder and scanreg.. I finally ran registry repair from 98se
C.D
Windows now boots then goes to dos and has a C: prompt. What do I type
at the prompt
to get windows to finally start?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Try typing "win". If that doesn't work, go to
http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm and create a Windows 98
boot floppy. Use it to start the problem computer, insert your
Windows 98 CD, type "scanreg /restore" and restore the previous
registry.

Thanks Ben. I restored the registry and windows still won't start. the
windows logo comes up then a dos screen with a C: prompt. I typed Win,
WIN, WININIT, and "START YOU #^&*$@# !!!!!. To no avail. The last
command had no chance of working but made me feel better.

Copy and paste the following text to Notepad and save it to a floppy as
"a:\winboot.txt". Start the problem computer to a C:\ prompt, insert the
floppy, type "copy a:\winboot.txt c:\winboot.ini" and press "Enter". Then
remove the floppy and restart.

[Paths]
WinDir=C:\WINDOWS
WinBootDir=C:\WINDOWS
HostWinBootDrv=C
[Options]
BootGUI=1
;end

This is normal. The prompt
C:
indicates you are logged to C: (root directory.)
The file WIN.COM is in C:/Windows
You need to be logged to a file's own directory
before you can run it, or else use a /Path
command. Use command CD Windows
to change to the folder /Windows. You can
then see the various parameters for WIN.COM
by keying
WIN /?

I followed your instructions.The C: prompt is gone but now I get
"VWM32.vxd is required to run windows.If this file is not in your path
you may need to reinstall windows."

Start the computer, tap the F8 key repeatedly until the startup menu
appears and select "Command Prompt". Then type
"dir /a /s c:\vmm32.vxd", press "Enter" and see if the file really is
missing. If so, you may be able to rebuild it.

Also, see if the following applies to you.
