WINDOWS 98 'PATCH' KB891711
I am working on my neighbours computer which has windows 98. Because
computer has minimum memory I have closed most of the start up items and only have his AVG anti virus and volume control in the startup menu. Should I also tick the above windows patch ????? or is it automatically protected. Thanks for any advice. -- margiegirl |

There should be other things that start at boot besides what you describe.
There are two power profile entries required and perhaps multiple antivirus files that should be starting. Go to the start menu, Run and type: msconfig. When the screen appears, look at the startup tab and that will tell you everything that is running. Hopefully you have not restricted some critical process from starting. -- Regards Ron Badour, MS MVP for W98 Tips: http://home.satx.rr.com/badour Knowledge Base Info: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=kbinfo "margie" wrote in message ... WINDOWS 98 'PATCH' KB891711
I have not been in the groups in several days--I had a big project in my
garage and that is the reason I did not get back to you. I see you have posted several places and it looks like your questions have been answered. Just in case, here is what I do: I look at each item in the msconfig startup tab and if I don't know what it is, I either Google it or go to the web site Alan listed. I only start those optional items that are used in 95% of my computing sessions or mandatory ones required by the system, antivirus program, etc. -- Regards Ron Badour, MS MVP for W98 Tips: http://home.satx.rr.com/badour Knowledge Base Info: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=kbinfo "margie" wrote in message ... There were no explosions but none were expected. I repaired the gas hot
water heater (bad thermocoupler) a couple of weeks ago and no booms then or now :-)) -- Regards Ron "Alan Edwards" wrote in message ... Hope the garage didn't blow up. |
