Turns out my modem was only getting -22 db on channel 85 at 591 Mhz., after the
splitter the TV cable guy put in; so the Cable light on the modem kept going
out. At the wall jack, the level was -12 db on channel 85. There is a steep
rolloff of good frequency response somewhere between channel 77 and channel 85
from the wire inside the wall; this is using RG-59 cable and not the RG-6 cable.
There was another outlet in my bedroom that was nearer to the laundry room where
the the lockbox is located. The output from there was -9 db at the wall at 591
Mhz. In order for the cable internet tech to use a splitter, he needs +0 db or
better from the wall; and all he got were negative numbers at the frequency
used. So he ran a long cable from my bedroom to my computer modem in my living
room. I don't think that setup is gonna pass apartment inspection next year!
However, since he took the splitter off of my TV set too, the signal on my TV
screen is much improved, but still not as good as my parents TV cable signal a
couple of blocks away. I'm using an active 4 way splitter to plug in my 2 VCR's,
DVD burner tuner, and my TV set; and I set the gain on the splitter all the way
up. It's a bi-directional splitter, so if digital services ever wind up in here,
the splitter could handle them...maybe. Channels above 60 still get snowy; but a
couple of days ago, the snowiness extended down to channel 21 because of the
splitter for the internet connection. I still blame the cable inside the wall
for the snowiness that still exists, but I will not have an internet connection
splitter on that outlet again!!!

So, my question is, how do I get rid of this long cable without suffering EMF
effects from a wireless router in my bedroom? I'm very sensitive to EMF, and I
can feel the induction of ionizers in my balls! I have to wear a magnetized
bracelet to help counteract the physical effects I get from ionizers, and put
the ionizers on a multi-event timer! Can a wireless router work with a modem
that is running from a -9 db signal? Can I run a wireless router with the base
unit that far away from my computer? I'd like to use wireless USB adapters for
my current and future computers for the remote computer hookups. I'm thinking of
using the Linksys brand.

The tech said that the modem should be running from a signal of -8 db or better,
and that the wire in the wall should be replaced; but that it would cost the
landlord over $10,000 to replace all of the 30 year-old RG-59 wire with brand
new RG-6 wire. Nobody is in a position of authority to force the landlord to
replace the wire. If the landlord did replace the wire, a lot of walls in the
complex may suffer damage from the process.
