Default System will not bootup in windows98.

operating windows 98 on Acer 340t laptop.
Cannot bootup in windows and wish to preserve files on HD.

Following Message appears: "Coose Command prompt only and
run scandisk". After this is done, "Missing or Corrupted

appears with a A:\ prompt.

All attempts to enter dos commands to the "A:" drive with

Try entering these three lines from Dos:

C:
PATH=C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND
Win

(That's a semi-colon after WINDOWS (
Also try this:

C:
c:\windows\win.com

If they help post back.

Do them from Command Prompt Only. The path command should be
available. Also try them from Dos Safe Mode. You do not need the
Startup diskette.

Your Win98 Startup disk may have a problem.
To create another one run the Fat32ebd.exe file located on the Win98
CD in the Tools/Mtsutil/Fat32ebd directory. This can be done from
any Windows machine. Or create one from the machine you are on from
Add/Remove Programs.
