Default defragmenting

I have just formated the HD and reinstalled win 98 after
lots of problems. Now when I go to defrag the HD I get
this message.
ID# Defrag009

Your computer does not have enough memory to defragment
this drive. shut down one or more programs and try again.
Well guess what it drfrags D. E just find and I have no
programs running in the BGround. it will not work in safe
mode either. I can not scan disk either only at the dos
prompt will scan disk work. win 98 does not allow defrag
from the dos prompt. ANY SUGESTIONS

Unless you want to start over, you will probably need a partitioning program
to straighten out the cluster size to partition size. I use:

BootIt Next Generation is available from: http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/
and it does partitioning, makes a compressed image, does many other
partitioning chores and is a boot manager. It is not quite as easy to use
as Partition Magic but it is half the cost and has more features. Unlike
the crippled PMagic demo, BING is a *full function* demo you can try for
FREE for 30 days. The web site has a lot of support articles.
