Default What's the best version of Azureus for Win98SE?

I was trying to reinstall Baldur's Gate after a MOD conflict when I
accidentally clicked on Azureus and uninstalled it instead. I found
that Azureus has now become Vuze and seems to no longer support Win9X.
I like to sic my obsolete computer on doing things like running
Bittorrent or burning CDs so it doesn't tie up resources on my modern
computer when possible; so I'd like to reinstall Azureus. What was the
best version to install on Windows 98SE, as it's obvious the updater
wasn't working as I hadn't updated it in at least two years. I do know
it had been updated since it was installed, so my old installer that I
saved on a CD is obsolete. Also, where can I find the appropriate
download link for said version?

Alternately, what would be the best bitorrent application to install
on my old Windows 98SE computer?

Hmm, just for legal downloads right...

Try old versions:
http://www.oldversion.com/Azureus.html

And why did you post the request in this group?

Well, that shows me the old versions, but which one is the best for
Win98SE?

As for why this group? Which group should I have used? Azureus is an
internet file sharing program. File sharing and internet == network.

Unless the laws have changed, I was taught long ago that I'm allowed
to make a backup copy of my game disks. Unless it's different for CD-
ROMs. In any case, when a CD is copy protected and I can't play on
the backup, I often download cracked copies so I don't risk my
original CD given the number of accidents I've had over the years.
It's paid off on several occasions.

I suppose that would be more of your own *personal determination* than
the actual program. Just as it is for any other application where
someone might like one particular version over a newer or older one,
just because they don't like the interface change, or some change in
menu, or other like activities.
Remember that this is apparently a JAVA implementation, so JAVA
vulnerabilities are inherent in the program. It might be advisable to
keep apprised of any warnings and fixes therein related.

Okay, reasonable explanation... definitely a network when peered to
others using Azureus/Tor activities. Then again, that would make ANY
activity done out here networking, which it is. That far reaching
understanding usually escapes most people.

Yep, always best to have some form of usable backup of your purchased
software. Also nice to have a backup of your purchased movies as well,
which I have always, personally, taken issue with when copy protections
preclude making a copy of the purchased CD/DVD.
Then again, there are other methods/work-arounds for that potential
issue which are beyond the extent and scope of this Networking Forum.

I was hoping to be told that there was either a version that worked
well in 98 before they started restricting features to the NT line, or
to be told that the latest version works best as it has the most
features for that OS. As I said, I use the Windows 98 computer as my
primary torrent machine BECAUSE it is obsolete, therefore I don't have
to tie up my good computer's resources. Even though it runs in the
background, it's still degrading performance.

It seems I missed the M.P.W.internet group, as I only saw the
subgroups that didn't seem relevant. You were right to ask, and upon
rereading the quote it seems I came off far more sarcastic than was
intended. I was trying to legitimately ask, but it came across far
more crass than I intended. My deficiency at tact strikes again.

Wish I could help with a version but...

You could always try the gen_discussion group... networking and
Internet [and most others] in the 9X discussion groups aren't posted in
very much anymore.
