Default batch file via task manager is interfering with dos program

We leave a dos program running in full screen mode overnight on pc1.
Trying to run a basic xcopy batch file at 4am on pc1 that pulls data from
win98se server.
when it runs... the program minimizes to the taskbar and interferes with
nightly polling to the other stores.
Running the program in a dos box is not an option.
If possible, how can this batch file just run in the background without
disrupting the program?
Thanks very much.
