Firefox 8 Tabs question
This question refers to Firefox 8.01 running in Windows98se with
Kernal-Ex. How can I make New Tabs open my homepage. Firefox 2.x and 3.x had the same problem. With all the FF upgrades, I would have thought they would have done something about this by Ver8. Apparently not!!!!! Note: (My homepage is a simple HTM file on my own harddrive, which is simply links to pages I often use, as well as links to numerous search engines). When Firefox starts, the first page goes right to my homepage. After that, any new tab is just a blank page. If I open a new window, that goes to my homepage, but not new tabs. I want every new tab to go right to my homepage. I can not find any settings to make this happen. Can this be done, and how? Another browser I used to use, (K-Meleon), always opened my homepage in every window and tab. I'm used to that, and find it annoying to have to click on the "Home icon" everytime I open a new tab. --- I've asked this on a firefox newsgroup, several times, but it seems no one replies to questions on there..... |

First I have to ask why you're using FF 8 - or point out to you that bookmarks and the recent-history drop-down bar don't work on FF8 with win-98/KernelEx. I believe that they do work in FF7. I was not aware of that problem because I dont use bookmarks at all. My "homepage" *IS* my bookmarks. I have 7 browsers installed. If I had to try to keep track of which browser has which bookmark, I'd go insane. I have to spend a few minutes every so often doing a little HTM editing to modify my homepage file, but that same file opens in every browser and is always there and ready to pick my most used pages as well as a list of search engines, as well as youtube, wikipedia, and other common stuff. I did notice that the "recent history" does not work, (and was not sure why), but "history" is a feature I rarely use in any browser. In fact I clear the history whenever I clear the cache, which is at least once a day. so it really dont matter to me. FF8 works fine otherwise! How can I make New Tabs open my homepage. I can confirm that with FF2, new tabs indeed DO NOT open according to your selected home-page (which I didn't know because my default is a blank page) and apparently this behavior extends up to at least very recent versions of FF (who can keep track of them any more...) However, I can also confirm (because I've just installed it) that this addon DOES work with FF2 and DOES do exactly what you want: --------------- NewTabURL 2.2.3 August 13, 2011 https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fir...don/newtaburl/ This is exactly what I was looking for. It works great. Thanks! Select the default URL when new tabs are opened. The options a "A blank page", "The home page", "The current page" or a user defined URL. When there is an URL in the clipboard, it is also possible to open automatically that URL in the new tab. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fir...don/newtaburl/ --------------- |
