Default End of updates for W98ME?

Hi all,

I understand that support/updates for W98SE ends in June.
I have also read that the same is true for W98ME. Is this
true? I would have assumed that since w98ME was released
after W98SE and therefore the support time line would have
been longer. Any more info on this?

thanks,
charles.....

The link doesn't say but I wonder if this means that this newsgroup will
be discontinued as well.

As has been mentioned before when the question was asked, this newsgroup
will continue although there may eventually be some consolidation of the
Win 9/98SE and Me newsgroups to reduce their number.

Can/will someone download all the updates for W98FE, W98SE and
W98ME so that if one wants to/needs to build a W98 machine from
scratch a "super update" cdrom will be available? I am sure that
M$ will pull all the updates off their website in June when official
support is pulled and it will stop any other website from offering them.

Pfffttt.... Microsoft still has Windows 95 stuff available. They'll
never cut off their Windows 98 customers... or would they?

This is unlikely to happen however there is absolutely nothing to stop you
from downloading all the various Win Me patches from the Windows Update
Catalogue. (http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...en/default.asp)
and burning them to a CD for yourself.

Have you ever tried to do an update on NT or W95?
Have you ever tried to find older versions of Media Player
or DirectX or IE or Service Packs?
Once M$ pulls support for a product, it generally makes
it illegal for ANYONE to make it available for download
after that date, personal experience with trying to find
stuff that was "out of date". M$ thinks it hurts sales of
current products.

laster....
