reinstall ie6 unable to repair
I have attempted to repair ie6sp1 and receive a message that it cannot be
repaired. I was unable to uninstall from add/remove ( I vaguely recall that several updates ago there was a message that indicated that after installation IE wcould not be removed) When I attempt to reinstall 6.0 from a disk from my ISP I am prevented form doing so because a newer version already exists. A few months ago I recall seeing instructions regarding reinstallation that involved editing the registry or its it register ( I think it was a knowledge base article), but I have bee unable to relocate it. (I was researching a different problem at the time.) Does anyone know anything about this? OS is 98se if that makes a difference. |

If you delete uninstall information... you can't uninstall
^_^. IE6 won't reinstall because your current version is a higher version than the one you are trying to install. e.g. The one on your pc is IE6.0.2 The one you want to install is IE6.0.1 Try getting the latest version of IE6, and then reinstalling that over your current version. Doesn't Windows Update work? |

Try deleting the entire directory "internet explorer" in your program
files, and start fresh.. sounds drastic, but it was my only way around reintalling ie because of a error message about a file that was damaged or corrupt. you will still have the deleted folder in your recycle bin if you run into further trouble, that can be "restored" but it worked for me |

Download the stub installer, run it, choose "Minimal or Custom" install option, then put check marks in every option that will permit it, not including Multi-Language (unless you want ML options.) Make sure you do not already have a folder called "C:\Windows Update Setup Files" on your system. If you do, I suggest you first delete it or rename it. Also, do not try uninstalling or deleting files. Now, because it's Windows 98, I wouldn't trust the reinstallation of IE to not break recent updates, so I would also recommend going to Windows Updates Catalog afterwards and reinstalling every update since Sept. 9, 2002. (Unless you're lucky enough to have the Security Updates CD that was released earlier this year, or know someone who has it, in which case run that and then get every Windows Update since October 13, 2003.) Deleting directories/files is not the proper way to remove any program, all it will
do is wind up in a snarled mess. -- Brian A. Conflicts start where information lacks. http://www.dts-l.org/goodpost.htm "im5150" wrote in message om... It take it I'll need to get a Double Byte version of
Windows 98 to be able to have native support to display japanese characters; as well as save files when japanese characters in their file names? (And no, installing Win2k or WinXP is not an option; especially XP) |

He's deleting it so he can reinstall it; thus the orphaned
