Default problems at start up

I have an HP Pavilion 8380 that after the desktop appears
and after I X the Windows Tutorial and press OK on
a "Error loading windows\NET/P60 DLL" notice, either
freezes or goes to a screen that displays "a fatal
exception has occurred at 0028:00C9000B" and the computer
can then only be shut down by using the power button.

This began to occur after I attempted to set up a network
with my wife's computer. Prior to the problem occurring,I
had been having the Internet Explorer pop up automatically
twice after the desktop appeared at startup.

As the desktop appears, the time shows up in the tray at
the lower right hand corne of the screen but the other
eight programs in the tray never show up before the
problem occurs.

If the problem started after trying to setup a network, you can simply boot
to Safe Mode and remove the network adapters. This should sort out the
problem for you.

To get to Safe Mode, re-start your computer, press F8 when it says "Starting
Windows", and select Safe Mode.

Its been starting in safe mode automatically but I don't
know what to do at the prompt. Also I think the problem
started before the network attempt was make and I was able
to get around it on the second attempt.

Would a Windows Startup floppy help? My original floppy
drive is dead and I have an external usb floppy drive (in
bay M ?. Could I download a Startup floppy from
Bootdisk.com and get it to work? If so would I need to do
something at the prompt in safe mode to get the computer
to go to the new external floppy drive?

Thanks in advance for your help. I have to go to work now
but will log back on as soon as I can.
