Keyboard layout

I have a Japanese Dell notebook computer which I bought in
Tokyo whilst working there. The Japanese version of
Windows 98 finally got so annoying I installed an english
language version of Windows 98. However, now the keyboard
layout is wrong, the characters displayed on the buttons
do not correspond to the characters typed on the screen.
For example, the bracket ( on the 8 key prints on the
screen as an asterix.

Can anyone let me know how I can resolve this problem?

On all my keyboards the asterisk is on the 8 key.
What you may have is a Japanese keyboard, change the keyboard if you want
compatibility.
