SSDP (Simple Service Discovery Protocol) is used by Universal Plug and Play and if you have no UPnP devices I would strongly recommend that you install this service. You can do this Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs | Windows Setup | Communications | Details and browse to the bottom of the list and uncheck UPnP. To read more about UPnP in Win Me may I suggest starting by reading MS KB Q262458 - "Description of Universal Plug and Play Features in Windows" (http://support.microsoft.com/default...;EN-US;Q262458). Note that there is a security issue when SSDP is enabled. See MS KB Q311311 - "Invalid Universal Plug and Play Request Can Disrupt Computer Operation" (http://support.microsoft.com/default...;EN-US;Q311311) for more details. The necessary patch is available from the Windows Update site or can be downloaded from Q311311. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP |

Thanks for the correction H. Yes, I meant UNinstall. I blame cut and
paste. I made the same mistake last time I posted that message and then had to correct it. On that occasion I managed to see the mistake myself. :-) -- Mike Maltby Heirloom wrote: I would strongly recommend that you install this service. ============================== I'm sure Mike meant to say "uninstall" or "disable"..........just so there is no confusion. |
