Security Update for Flash Player (KB913433) -failed
Just tried install "critical updates" from ms site, all done, except
'Security Update for Flash Player (KB913433)' - this failed, "No Updates Were Installed" message. I have no any newest version of 'macromedia player', only default one that was in windows 98SE. If that is an issue, why microsoft update technology canno first check is the appropriate macromedia product installed on target pc or not? |

All the king's MVPs & all the king's men won't get MS to fix anything now-- not for Win98!
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../MS06-020.mspx Microsoft Security Bulletin MS06-020 Vulnerabilities in Macromedia Flash Player from Adobe Could Allow Remote Code Execution (913433) I see no evidence this was ever offered to me. It DOES appear to be in the Catalog... http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...en/default.asp I guess it isn't offered to me because I have an updated version of Macromedia Flash. I'm thinking your version is... maybe not fully installed. Therefore, the update is offered but fails. How do things look in...?... "Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, Windows Setup tab, Multimedia Components". Looks like I'm checked there for "Macromedia Shockwave", but unchecked for "Macromedia Shockwave Flash". (1) Take both, & try the critical update, or (2) Forget Add/Remove & the critical update. Go to Adobe, instead, for a higher version. -- Thanks or Good Luck, There may be humor in this post, and, Naturally, you will not sue, should things get worse after this, PCR "mistral" wrote in message ... | Just tried install "critical updates" from ms site, all done, except | 'Security Update for Flash Player (KB913433)' - this failed, "No Updates | Were Installed" message. | I have no any newest version of 'macromedia player', only default one that | was in windows 98SE. Security Update for Flash Player (KB913433) -failed
(I swear I answered this before somewhere.)
Short story: The Flash version you have installed isn't subject to the vulnerability addressed by 913433. Then why did WU offer it to you? Dunno. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE/OE, Shell/User, Security), Aumha.org VSOP, DTS-L.org mistral wrote: Just tried install "critical updates" from ms site, all done, except 'Security Update for Flash Player (KB913433)' - this failed, "No Updates Were Installed" message. The option you describe is only available on the version of Windows Update used for WinXP, so obviously that method is not applicable to Win9x. There are "Choose which categories and updates to display on Windows Update ", - but there are no Macromedia Flash update entry. MS even can no check is this appropriate program version installed on target Pc or not.. I have no idea why it appears when you scan for updates if it is not applicable to your version of Flash.....but remember that Flash is an Adobe product, not a Microsoft product, and a fix should actually have come from Adobe, not MS. I'm not sure why you expect Windows Update to determine what version of a third-party software is installed on your system. Perhaps you should be complaining to Adobe about it rather than MS. -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP Shell/User, A+ http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm |
