BIG MESS
THIS WAS ORIGINAL RESPONSE TO PROBLEM LAST YEAR:
From: "Seaver Ren" To: "CARMEN ARDINO" Subject: About the problem of System Restore Date: Mon, 21 Jul 2003 20:26:27 +0800 Dear Carmen, Per the current status, I suggest run the Setup /nd command to overwrite install the system. Note: The /nd command-line switch used with Setup.exe bypasses any migration dynamic-link libraries (DLLs) during the reinstallation of Windows. A migration DLL is a file that contains a list of files that Windows Setup should not replace if we attempt to install an earlier version. This means that any update that changed Windows system files or Windows component files will be overwritten with the originally installed versions of the files. We may overwrite install the system to reload all the system files in Windows. This helps us verify if all the system files are correct. Please rest assured that no data loss will occur after the implementation. a. Insert one Startup Disk into the floppy drive, and restart the computer. Note: To create one Startup disk, please go to Control Panel = Add/Remove Programs = Startup disk, click the Create Disk button to create it. b. When the boot menu appears, choose "Start computer with CD-ROM support" (without the quotation marks), and then press Enter. c. Insert the Windows installation CD into the CD-ROM drive. d. Type the following commands, pressing the Enter key after each command: cd-rom drive: cd Win9x setup /is /nd Note: There is one space between "setup" and "/is", and a space between "/is" and "/nd". Note: cd-rom is the disk letter of the CD-ROM drive. (For example, if our CD-ROM drive is set as the E: disk, let's type E. e. Reinstall Windows Me according to the further instructions. Ensure it's installed in the same folder where former WinMe was installed. Generally it's C:\Windows. I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Seaver -----Original Message----- From: CARMEN ARDINO ] Sent: Saturday, July 19, 2003 11:36 PM To: Seaver Ren Subject: About the problem of System Restore I realized that I still had the 'Enable start up ' box checked, which gave me the start up screen every time. Now when I try to start in safe mode, I have no use of my mouse. I even tried to enabe the keyboard control, but the cursor is frozen. Before I follow the steps below, I would like to try to rename in safe mode IF I can get the cursor to move. Also I want to be sure I understand exactly what I am supposed to do. First I enable start up, checked the 'Show hidden files', deselected 'Hide protected op files'. Next restart in safe mode & rename '_RESTORE' TO 'RESTOREOLD'. If this doesn't work I will paste the entire next command in the run window: 'C:\Windows\rundll.exe setupx.dll,InstallHinfSection PCHealth.install 132 c:\windows\inf\pchealth.inf' . You then say to reinstall Help center, does this automatically come onto the screen, or where do I go to reinstall? As my last resort I will follow below, which I have to admit somewhat concerns me for fear of losing data. I'm sorry that this is dragging on so long, it's hard to find the time to sit and keep trying things, restarting and trying again. Hopefully we are close. SEPT6,2004 I sincerely appreciated all of your past assiatence. I never tried to reinstall Windows ME for fear of loosing data, even though you assured me it would be fine. this week I started having problems with a screen saver, maine Aquarium by Serene Screens, and they reccommended updating my Direct x, which I did. I still had problems stating that my 'DDRAWDLL file cannot start'. So I tried tofollow above. With 22 min to the end of reinstallation, an arror message came up: SUNWIN: an error occurred in youyr application. If you choose to ignore, save your work in a file, if you close, application will terminate. It would not allow 'ignore', and when I hit close, my computer froze and I had to shut off power. When it came back on, I had many more errors:1. error starting program a required .dll file WINSPOOLDRV was not found. 2.error loading POWERPROF.DLL one of the library files needed to run this application cannot be found. 3. A library file UNICONS.dll not found 4. SUNwin caused a protection fault in VERXDLL at 0002.24AE. My sounds & multimedia file in control panel is also gone. Dr. Watson checked the ssystem and said 'mmsystem.dll'is not listed in boot section of system.ini My McAffee virus scan isn't loading, nor are most other programs. I tried to reinstall Windows ME again but got same errors. Should I uninstall Windows ME then reinstall? Or I have the XP upgrade which I never installed. Would installing this overwrite everything? PLEASE HELP... phone # 973-668-0626 or . |
