Default Microsoft word just hangs when trying to use

Recently my wife accidently clicked on a spyware button
that installed a lot of spyware. In the process of trying
to remove it using spy sweeper, noadware my fonts
directory was deleted as well as other system directories.
I fixed the fonts issue but a issue I still can't seem to
fix is that word 2000 won't launch. The word 2000 logo
appears and then a error message appears stating I am
running out of memory and should close down word. One
thing I also noticed that the anti spyare software did was
to delete my inf directory. I restored most of the files
in the directory but I believe this is where my problem
with word is. I tried to reinstall microsoft office 2000
and it did not fix this issue. All other office
applications work fine.
thanks for any help.
Paul

ps. Don't use either of the spyware removal programs
because neither did a good job because in addition to
office 2000 be screwed up the adware issue is still being
battled

1. Stick with known mainstream anti-spyware apps. Millions of folks use
Spybot Search&Destroy and/or AdAware without any problems.

2. Search for and delete all copies of NORMAL.DOT on your hard drive, then
restart the computer and try Word again.

Richard,
Thank you very much for the quick response.
I deleted the normal.dot and restarted my PC
and I was able to launch word.

What does word do with normal.dot that would
cause it to hang like that?

Thanks,

Paul

Normally the cause is a corrupt NORMAL.DOT file (where your default Word
settings are stored) but sometimes a Word macro virus can creep in and do
the same.
