Static IP vs. MAC ???
If I look at my NIC properties in Network one tab lists the following;
Link down power savings: disable Link speed: auto negotiate Link speed: auto negotiate Network address: not present Optimal performance: disable Receive buffer size: 64k bytes Wakeup on ARP/PING: enable Wakeup on Link change: disable Wakeup using APM Mode: disable Now is the "network address" option listed above the place where a static IP address would be set? I tried to use it but it seemed to just totally screw things up. Must the desired x.x.x.x format be entered as hex or something? Or is this the MAC address rather than the IP address? Thanks! |

Static IP vs. MAC ???
When in doubt, do not mess with any of the settings in this area. Most of
them will either cause network performance issues or will cause the NIC to stop working altogether. -- Richard G. So what is this MAC address used for? Is it really proper to have it
labeled "network address?" I understand it uniquely identifies the NIC and is built into the NIC, so why would you ever, ever, ever need or want to change it? Thanks. Richard G. some ISP's issue IP 's by MAC address ...new NIC = no connection
also used for router filtering .. and probably many things I didn't mention : -- Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's Windows support http://www.aumha.org wrote in message oups.com... In some circumstances you might want to alter the MAC address of the card,
so if you put a valid MAC address in this space Windows will use that MAC address instead of the one build in to the card. I can't think of a reason you'd want to, but it's possible. -- Richard G.
