Default Computer will not start

During a storm our power blinked....both of my computers
got knocked out. They both re-booted just
fine....afterwards I shut them both down. This morning I
tried to boot them up and one booted just fine but the
other one acts like is isn't even plugged in. What could
have happened here? Or better yet where do I begin to
remedy this?
I am running Windows 98....(when it did run)
Thanks for any assistance in advanced.

Hi Dulittle,

It sounds like some peace of hardware was damaged in the
power outage. Have you tried unplugging it from the outlet and
plugging back in? Is the outlet still hot?

Is this computer plugged into a surge protecter bar?
Some of these have a reset button. Others are one time use.
To start..plug it into a differant outlet you know is
working.
If the computer will not start up after this? Then it may
need a new power supply. Or maybe just the internal fuse
in the power supply.
If you push the power button and NOTHING happens like the
fans coming on or any noise. I would pretty much suspect
the power supply.
I would suggest in getting a "battery" back up type power
protector. They cost about $35. They protect against power
surges and outages. Plus gives you enough power back-up to
shut the computer down properly. A good surge protector
plug-in bar will cost you about 2/3rds of the battery type.
And most plug-in bars are only good for about a year
weather they are tripped or not during that time. After a
year they reset may or may not work.
