Default System difficulties at boot

I am really new to this and need some help. I am working on a win98 system
and was doing some spyware cleanup and was running into some difficulties at
reboot. The first one is a LBA message occurs when I boot in safe mode, I
don't know what to do. FYI I have a C & D drive. The LBA error is on the D
drive. The other is a ccw32.exe error. I am also having trouble with
Windows Update. I go to install the critical updates and it locks up on me.
Can someone please help?

What is the exact message?

Blind suggestion: Go to the HD manufacturer's web-site and
download/run their diagnostics software.

If you are not on a network run a full system virus scan with up to =
date definitions.
If you are on a network and you use Carbon Copy by Altiris then =
something in either the app or the network has become corrupt, possibly =
due to the drive issue.

Just to advance Blanton's suggestion...

........Start......of quote of Glee..........
Download the diagnostics for your brand hard drive.

If you do not know the brand, download Seagate SeaTools. After it is
downloaded, double-click it, and it will create a bootable floppy disk
with the diagnostic program on it. Then boot your problem computer
using the bootable floppy, and choose the Generic long test. It will
create a report that you can read from within the program when the tests
are complete, and it is also saved as a text file on the floppy disk.

Alternately, you can use the evaluation version of Ontrack Data Advisor,
which is the same program in its original version. They both are
created the same way.

Seagate SeaTools:

Error codes:

Data Advisor:

The download link has not been working recently...if it does not
connect, use Seagate SeaTools instead.

Installation instructions for both:

If you DO know the brand, find the diagnostics he
