Default adding WinXp pc to Win98 network


The problem has been resolved.

Thanks for your help. The problem was discovered to be caused by a
half-uninstalled Norton Internet Security on the central Win98 pc. This
prevented the WinXP pc from seeing the Win98 file shares on it but they could
be seen by other Win98pcs.
NIS could not be removed so it was reactivated, but without the security
set, so that it did nothing. That's it.

Thanks for posting back ..that is why people advise to "uninstall" firewalls
and such for trouble shooting...

unfortunately Norton is bad for leaving things behind on an uninstall.
