Internet Explorer problem
I have been getting error messages when going to certain websites : "your
browser is not active x enabled" (or something to the same effect.) So I went into "tools"- "internet options" and clicked "enable" for all active x entries. But still the webpages gave the same error message. Looking in "control panel-add remove programs" , there is no longer an entry titled "Internet Explorer 6 and Internet Tools", so I could not do the "repair Internet Explorer" option. There is an entry called "Internet Explorer Q831167". When I chose to uninstall that entry, the old entry (Internet Explorer 6 and Internet Tools) did not come back. Doing an update via Windows Update website, the entry IE Q831167 came back, but not the original entry which is Internet Explorer 6 and Tools. Any one know how to get it back? |

Internet Explorer problem
It would be under *Microsoft* Internet Explorer in
add/remove list. Or go to Start/Run Type Msinfo32 click OK. At top click on tools and select IE Repair Tool. Bolt Repair Internet Explore and OK. Be sure to answer yes to a restart. Run AdAware after restart. -----Original Message----- I have been getting error messages when going to certain websites : "your browser is not active x enabled" (or something to the same effect.) In the "Add/Remove Programs" list, IE itself is always listed under 'M' for "Microsoft Internet Explorer". As you say, the updates and fixes and listed under "I" for "Internet Explorer". Logic? Internet Explorer problem
I tried the repair, didn't fix the problem. There is no entry in add/remove
for "Microsoft Internet Explorer" or "Internet Explorer". (There IS an entry for "Microsoft Outlook Express"). Before trying the repair, I did full sweeps with up-to-date Ad-Aware, Spybot Search and Destroy, Antivir Free Edition, and Webroot Spy Sweeper. No problems were detected by these programs. Can anyone help? "ppoatt" wrote in message ... It would be under *Microsoft* Internet Explorer in add/remove list. Or go to Start/Run Type Msinfo32 click OK. Internet Explorer problem
As ppoatt & Stapley have suggested, the correct reading is "Microsoft
Internet Explorer 6 SP1 & Internet Tools". If it is still not there after the Repair, then... Over-install IE. Try first without, but I believe it will request an internet connection. Perhaps it is best to let it connect, actually. If you don't care to get this fancy, just skip to step (c). (a) Turn off interfering programs. Use http://www.pcmag.com/ 's "StartupCop" or "EndItAll2". Or "START, Run, MSConfig, Startup tab". Note what is unchecked, if anything. Then, go to the General tab & disable the entire Startup Group, by clicking "Selective.." & unchecking "Load Startup...". Reboot. (b) Perhaps, if you haven't got EndItAll2, then "Ctrl-Alt-Del" & end task all but Explorer & Systray. If this goes badly, start again from top, & skip it next time. (c) "START, Find, F/F, IE6Setup.exe". Click it in the Find window. NOTE: If you are IE5, then it's "IE5Setup.exe". If there are more than one (I have two each), click the one in "C:\WINDOWS\Windows Update Setup Files" or "C:\Windows Update Setup Files", as applicable. (d) Re-enable the Startup Group. That will automatically check all items. Go to the Startup tab & uncheck any noted in step (a). Reboot. (e) Perhaps go to Windows Update, to see whether it now offers criticals. -- Thanks or Good Luck, There may be humor in this post, and, Naturally, you will not sue, should things get worse after this, PCR "Francis Marsden" wrote in message ... | I have been getting error messages when going to certain websites : "your | browser is not active x enabled" (or something to the same effect.) Internet Explorer problem
"I found the problem: SpywareBlaster was blocking active x controls. Previously I had uninstalled Blaster but that did not solve the problem, which led me to believe that it was not causing the problems. But just now I "remove protection for all items" in Spywareblaster, and now there are no problems with accessing websites using IE. Thanks for your help. |

You are welcome. Good thinking, to revisit SpywareBlaster's settings!

Internet Explorer problem
SpywareBlaster will protect against 4000 bad sites that are known to install
malware. There may still be some parasites in the user's computer. -- Henri Leboeuf Web page: http://www.colba.net/~hlebo49/index.htm === "PCR" wrote in message ... You are welcome.
