Default DVD-R Write Problem

I burned a song (24.6MB) for trial purpose using Nero 6. Then backed up my
data ( 2.4 GB) which is not being shown in My Computer, only I can see is the
song.
Properties of this drive shows Used space 24.7MB and Free space 0. while
Volume tab shows both 25MB and 2464Mb, changing this does nothing.
But in XP my backup data is also shown.
Q1. How data could be seen in ME also?

Then after about a month or so I tried to further backup my data, but Nero
gives message "not writeable disc".

Q2. Why while I have about half of my dvd empty? Do they lock the dvd or
allow only limited session to write on one partiuclar dvd?

help please

I'll try to my knowledge.

A cd or dvd needs to be burned in one format. Music, data,
multisession.

If it's a music cd it needs to be burned as just that.

A data cd as just that.

It can only be burned once.

Try burning your backup data as a multi-session or data cd. Throw an
mp3 (song) on there also for good measure.

Then after about a month or so I tried to further backup my data, but Nero
gives message "not writeable disc".

Was the dusk burned before? Occasionally they just don't work, you
will eventually know when to simply throw it in the trash

Q2. Why while I have about half of my dvd empty? Do they lock the dvd or

Once a cd or dvd is 'burned' nothing can go on it or off of it.

Select multisession if you plan to add or remove data from it.

help please

Is it supported in WinMe? Do you need nero for anything special
besides burning.

A good easy program for burning CDs in WinMe is DeepBurner. It's free
for burning CDs but needs to
have a license purchased for the DVD capability.

Consider downloading DeepBurner and burn a few CDs with it. Don't be
afraid of having a few CDs
fail in the process of learning how to use it.

I burned as data (which can be anything audio/video text/web documents etc).

It can only be burned once.

But i burned in two sessions (1-song 2-data 2.4GB).

Try burning your backup data as a multi-session or data cd. Throw an
mp3 (song) on there also for good measure.

I will try with multi session option.

Thats not a good news I buy writer only for backup. What will happen the day
i need those files, oh no I cant even imagine.

Its bundled with my writer and most talked about.

I ll see that

You burned it in two sessions and it may have acted like it worked but
as you state the size of the song
is the amount of data used in the first burn. CDs and DVDs can only be
successfully burned once.
Nothing can be added or removed after it's burned once.

Try burning your backup data as a multi-session or data cd. Throw an
mp3 (song) on there also for good measure.

If you have exactly what you need to burn to disk then I would say
burn it all at one time without multi session.

But you can do a final burn when you are done with the multi sessions.

Then after about a month or so I tried to further backup my data, but Nero
gives message "not writeable disc".

What I meant was sometimes CDs and DVD's can be flowed right out of
the package and won't work.

Your disk burning software may give you an error message stating
something that the CD or
DVD is bad.. Maybe not writeable as you stated.

Also sometimes burns don't work, if you try three burns and they don't
work your data is likely
corrupted.

Q2. Why while I have about half of my dvd empty? Do they lock the dvd or
allow only limited session to write on one partiuclar dvd?

Ok you answered everything important when you said you burned it
twice.

When you burn a cd or dvd I believe it literally burns a cd with a
laser hence the phrase burning
a cd.

have a license purchased for the DVD capability.
