=-O It's a smiley, as in "I don't believe my ears."
It was a moment of jocularity. Nothing serious. See attached.

Thanks.
Got the file using P2P.

Why does MS play these kind of games?
Why not just post the file so their Windows 98 customers can get them
without a hassle?

Can someone please direct me to the latest cumulative update for IE6SP1

for
98?

Update 867282 MS05-014

I'm really in need of a manual download link for this, not through

Windows
Update.

Thanks.

It doesn't appear that there is one for Win98. You'll need to launch
your ISP software and its processes, modem , etc., and then use Windows
Update... just remember that "to assure a clean install, your anti-virus
application should be disabled and *all other running processes closed*
before installing anything". Good luck with that.

But, a little birdie tells me that in my TIF folder there is a
functional 3.48MB file named:

E6.0sp1-KB867282-Windows-98-ME-x86-ENU_82d59697d62dfa0d9a852443cbd6125[1].ex
e

Of course, you can't ask me to email that to you, even if that is a
valid email address in your header, because it is illegal to distribute
such things. ;-)

I was pretty sure you would figure out a way to get it. I wouldn't think
that I was the first to snag it(along with the other 2 in this last
batch)from the TIF folder.

I got a 6 dial-up clients with 98, so it's easier for me to just burn
them to a CD rather than go through the tedious dial up crap at their
houses and offices.(Hypothetically speaking of course, I would never
distribute the files because that is ILLEGAL.) They're on Netzero and
AOL, which just exasperates the situation. They pay for slow service AND
popups. Go figure.

I have no idea about that. I could speculate, but what's the point?
Their game, their rules, their power trip. "The Phone Company" used to
behave that way too, but we've seen their fate, so just keep on smilin'.

They are all available via the standard Windows Update procedure.

They are also all available manually,
via the Windows Update Catalog process.

No sleight-of-hand, backdoors or skullduggery required.

Both Windows Update and the Update Catalog do not work for me. That's why I
went looking for a manual download for the IE6 patch.

Perhaps you could post the link to the file then?

I didn't see it in the catalog for Win98 and the article specifically
says that for Win98 is only available through Windows Updates. There
were download links provided for other platforms, but not Win98, or ME
for that matter.

You're more than welcome to find the link on this page:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../ms05-014.mspx

Also, from PABear's post:
"These updates are only available for Win9x users via Windows Update."

BTW, there is no skulduggery involved in grabbing a file voluntarily
downloaded by any entity to *my* TIF folder.

Looking forward to the link from you ...

Ouch to your AOL users on dial-up. Cox Cable is so nice and I am so thankful
for it. It does not go slowly like dial-up and does not have the time-outs
that plagued me with Sprint DSL.
