Default Daylight Savings Time

I had completely forgot about DST when I reinstalled Windows ME a few months
back. Today I downloaded a copy of TZEDIT and went through the procedure of
resetting DST, including the last 2 instructions of selecting a different
time zone in DATE/TIME (Control Panel) and then reselecting the proper time
zone. For some reason, it's not catching.

Any ideas?

As a matter of fact, yes Mike, I have rebooted several times since making
the change and I have just noticed that it doesn't matter what time zone I
designate, the clock remains at Eastern Standard time.

Does that provide a clue?

Have you rebooted following making the change to the registry using
TZEdit?

All I can suggest is that you try rolling your system back using system
restore to a checkpoint created prior to your first use of TZEdit and try
again.

Does that provide a clue?

Not really! vbg Thankfully our government, despite what are I feel its
many failings, haven't played around with the dates for what we call
"summer time" so it's not a problem I've had to deal with very often.

Thanks Mike

I restored to a point last month, reinstalled and edited TZedit but to no
avail. The initial change in Control Panel /Date- Time, I selected Pacific
Time but the clock did not change. I closed, reopened and correctly selected
Eastern Time Zone but again no change to the time.

I'll play with it over the next day but it's looking like I can't change the
time on my computer. Would this be a sign that the battery is going?

The battery, or rather its state, should only come in to play when the
computer is powered down and disconnected from the mains at which point
the battery is used to power the motherboard clock and CMOS memory.

Were you able to make changes to your clock last year, or was it the one
before, when the US first changed the dates? Which version of TZEdit are
you using? In the past I've used the copy downloadable that formed part
of the Windows 98 Resource Kit [KB247024 "Tools Included with the
Microsoft Windows 98 Resource Kit"
(http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=247024] which can be downloaded from
http://www.softshape.com/download/tzedit.zip. Extract the three files
from the zip to a folder on your desktop. then run tzedit and select your
time zone from the drop down box. Hit edit and it will show the offset
from GMT and the current start and stop dates for DST. Edit to match the
new ones for your location and click OK to save. Reboot.

A later version of TZEdit can be downloaded from Microsoft
http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...52f/tzedit.exe
but for some reason this version doesn't always seem to work with Win Me.

I downloaded this one, Mike, because my existing version was probably the
one you mention below and it didn't work for me either. Therefore I deleted
everything belonging to it, in order to try your alternative version.
Thanks. H.

I think "DST" should be outlawed.
It's sole purpose is to allow the golfers an extra hour of play in the
summer time, that's all, other reasons for it are plain fiction (hogwash).
How about it?

Harry.

Well, I don't see where it 'saves' any daylight.....we still have the exact
same amount we would have had without the time change. And, uh, Harry.....I
don't think Ben Franklin played golf.
Heirloom, old and it ought to be 'daylight shifting
time'

Don't matter, H, he tried to please them and just because his name is behind
it, doesn't mean it's beneficial, which I don't think it is. There are
states and places, where it isn't practiced. Daylight shouldn't be
"shifted", all it does is to upset one's bio-rythm. Think again!........
