Office2000 temp files
Hello all,
Please forgive me if this is the wrong group to post to. I have spent the last 2 days reading the newsgroups looking for any question/reply similar to my situation. Did not see any. Running WinME retail, w/all updates. (clean install) Knock, Knock, on wood! Dell Optiplex, 500mhz, 256mg ram, 5gig hard drive. Installed Office2000 w/all updates including all SP's. This computer is not connected to the internet or used for email. Updates and Service packs are all on CD's directly from the big "M". (Microsoft) No modem, NIC, sound card or floppy. Has only two programs on it: Word and Access. (no misc Windows options). An HP IIID laser jet printer to print documents. This computer is used for sensitive customer information, locked down and is not accessable to anyone but the system administrator. (locked in a 8X10 cage) Here's the situation... When ever I use word, (no crashes or the like) for the day, and shut down for the night, reboot in the morning, there are a lot of: {1487kuj-dhfndk579d9-sdga-bf8dfb89}.tmp files in the windows folder. These files are 0 bytes in size. Upon deleteing these files manually, closing the windows folder, emptying the recycle bin, reopening the windows folder, lo and behold the same files are back!. The windows folder is full of these files. Hundreds if not Thousands at the end of the work week. As stated before, this computer is not connected to the internet or used for email. No chance of any virus'. All CD's are directly from Microsoft. I have tried the Autoexec.bat approach to automatically delete these files at boot-up but WinME simply replaces the edited autoexec file. I have also tried other open source office apps, some if not all cannot complete the format of the documents and templates that word created. Although they say the open source office apps can open word (ms) formatted documents, this is not true! some documents and templates are garbled or are full of symbols. One more thing. There is no documented reports in the Knowledge Base at Microsoft. I have spent the last 6 days searching for anything similar. I also talk to a MS tech... his reply: REINSTALL! Has anyone, or you have had this problem w/Word 2000?. Any help with this would be VERY much appreciated! Thank-you The Sys Admin |
