Default A Firewall for Win 98SE?

Please recommend one.
Also, any advice on how to remove Zone Alarm v.6.0...? It's in my backup
Win 98. Don't use it often so I missed the warnings about that version
becoming unsupported.
I was advised in another group to get "Perfect Uninstaller". It won't
install. Error messages.
A good site for manual uninstall? Registry entries - how is True Vector
listed, by that name, or has some abbreviation substituted for it?
TIA for suggestions.

I believe I found your original posted issue on ZA forums...

Here's something I have have used, though it does require some careful
use as removing everything it finds can substantially impact your system
or even cause failure.

I use a program called *RegSeeker* to search the registry for entries
left/no longer valid, then CAREFULLY remove the ones just associated
with ZA. The listed entries found are shown and you can click them and
go directly into the actual registry entry to ensure it is one you want
to remove. IF you then use the program [first closing the regedit
program] to remove that/those specific entry(ies) while first backing
them up, you can return to the original registry prior to the removal
should you have messed up. This program also has a search function which
can check the files and registry for your specific query terms.
I have also used CCleaner with similar CAREFUL usage.
Both of these require you understand what can occur if you mess up, and
both {at least I think CCleaner did} allow you to backup what you are
removing, make sure you do so.

Please *do not* remove everything found by these programs, as each
system may have specific needs which the programs might not discover or
be configured for.

As for removing it from your backup, that is generally impossible, you
need to make a new backup/image after removal.

The firewall I chose after removal of ZA was Tiny/PFW. Nice and easy to
configure, yet using rule sets for control. NOTE: it will take some
getting used to as it does require you to manually allow/disallow each
activity during the "learning/setup phase" when it pops up asking for
access/allowance. DO NOT rely upon the default rules ONLY, as they are
designed to allow maximum ability to connect [specifically the ICMP and
DNS activities]. Moreover, I recommend a complete rule set SPECIFIC to
you own usage rather than using one of the ones available [though they
can be manually modified].

http://peoplescounsel.org/ref/gen/se.../firewalls.htm
contains links to firewall programs and specifically to Tiny/PFW rule
sets and general firewall rule making information.

Kerio Personal Firewall 2.1.5 works fine under '98, and with minimal use
of resources; whether it is proof against all things ever seen in the
wild that could in theory do ill under '98, of course, is unlikely.
(Find it, IIRR, at lastfreeversion, and other places.)
