When you went to the d: drive, what directory were you in? 4. What other files showed up when you do the DIR command? 5. Are you positive you are trying to install W98SE? 6. What mode were you in when you did the formating process? 7. What program did you you for the formating process FORMAT.COM? 8. Does the laptop still boot at all? 9. Do you have a boot floppy? 10. Can you boot to your oem cd? 11. When you do boot, can you "see" your cdrom and its contents? Will be back this afternoon to continue, the above should give us a good start. charles..... |

Please describe your procedures a bit more. You're using a floppy startup
disk, correct? You boot to it... Then what? Provide each command you perform. -- Gary S. Terhune MS MVP Shell/User "Wizzie" wrote in message ... Please do not use all caps. It denotes shouting and is difficult to read.
At the C:\ prompt, try: E:\Setup When you use a Windows Startup floppy disk, it creates a RAM Drive on D:\ and the CD drive letter is shifted to E:\ (assuming you have no other drives than C:\ hard drive and (usually) D:\ CD drive. -- Gary S. Re-installing
Most laptops come with a bootable CD--if this is what you have, you do not
need to use a floppy disk to install the system. Boot the computer with your W98 CD in and see what happens. If it boots without starting an installation, reboot and watch the screen to see what key to push to enter setup (the BIOS). Once in the BIOS, navigation instructions are provided on the screen. Look for a section where the Boot Devices are listed. If the CDRom is not the first boot device, change it so it is and then exit saving the change. Reboot with the W98CD in the drive again. If the installation still doesn't start, either there is a problem with your laptop or the CD is not bootable. -- Regards Ron Badour, MS MVP for W98 Tips: http://home.satx.rr.com/badour Knowledge Base Info: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=kbinfo "Wizzie" wrote in message ...
