Default Surface Scan

My computer has started locking up after sitting idle for
a period of time (sometimes as short as 30 min.) I have
to turn the power off. While it is booting up after I
turn the power back on it goes to a surface scan for Drive
C looking for bad clusters. This takes about 45 min. to
complete. What is causing this and how can I get out of it.

USB Mouse May Hang When the Computer Is Idle for a Long Time

So, if you have "Find Fast", try disabling that.

Thanks or Good Luck,
There may be humor in this post, and,
Naturally, you will not sue,
should things get worse after this,
