Wireless NetWorking between 98 & XP
I have an (OLD) 98 and a (NEW) XP Pro. I need to connect
wireless set up between the two, But, the 'Linksys Wireless Router' requires at least Windows 98SE. How do I upgrade my Windows 98 to Windows 98SE ? All my data is in my old 98 machine. I need to access from my new XP machine. Please consider this very urgent. -niladri |

The old computer should work fine with the wireless router using a wired Ethernet connection from the computer's network card to one of the router's LAN ports. If you want to use a wireless connection between the old computer and the wireless router, you can get a wireless network adapter that works with original Windows 98. I've used these models successfully: USB: Netgear MA101 Cardbus: Netgear MA401, Microsoft MN-520, SMC2635W The SMC2635W installation program says that the card won't work, but it installed and worked successfully in my tests. According to their web pages, these adapters should work on original Windows 98, too: USB: Netgear MA111 Cardbus: Orinoco Classic Gold PC Card PCI: Netgear MA311, Orinoco 11b -- Best Wishes, Steve Winograd, MS-MVP (Windows Networking) Please post any reply as a follow-up message in the news group for everyone to see. I'm sorry, but I don't answer questions addressed directly to me in E-mail or news groups. Do you have a WAP? If so, set both PC's to "infrastructure" networking and
turn on file/print sharing. "niladri chatterjee" wrote in message ... I have an (OLD) 98 and a (NEW) XP Pro.
