Beyond that (since you must not have Googled) here's 2 which may have what you need (no recommendation, just the links): http://freenews.maxbaud.net/ http://www.newsservers.net/forums/viewforum.php?f=9 Search for something like: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=free+news+servers -- MEB http://peoplescounsel.orgfree.com/ BLOG http://peoplescounsel.spaces.live.com/ Public Notice or the "real world" "Most people, sometime in their lives, stumble across truth. to keyboard and composed: Usenet is not free. There's a charge: http://signup.usenet.com/signup.cfm Any other recs. that have no service fees ? You know; similar to msnews.microsoft.com ( no fee).... I'm not sure about your initial question, but it looks like you are confusing Usenet and usenet.com. They are not the same. Usenet.com is an organisation that provides access to Usenet via its news server, news.usenet.com. To illustrate this, try pinging news.usenet.com. You should see ... Pinging fnews-east.usenet.com [38.119.97.92] with 32 bytes of data The following FAQ explains "What is Usenet": http://www.faqs.org/faqs/usenet/what-is/part1/ ================================================== ================== Usenet is a world-wide distributed discussion system. It consists of a set of "newsgroups" with names that are classified hierarchically by subject. "Articles" or "messages" are "posted" to these newsgroups by people on computers with the appropriate software -- these articles are then broadcast to other interconnected computer systems via a wide variety of networks. ================================================== ================== To answer your question regarding free news servers, you should first ask if your own ISP provides this facility. Typically your ISP's news server will have a name like news.your_ISP.com. - Franc Zabkar -- Please remove one 'i' from my address when replying by email. |

I stop into the site forum occasionally and may post something, but the forum hasn't been used for much, so.. (created the forum in a discussion with c_quirke; site never had one before that (actually it couldn't, as there was an active case which could have been adversely effected by it)). I always advise though, that the site AND the email address are registered with the government and are likely (are) monitored. Most are deterred by those facts. The reasons are too many to discuss here, it is an improper forum to do so. Moreover, the reasons and issues have already been discussed over the course of 15 years via Fido and VPN, and a dozen or so email addresses that are now dead, largely due to someone's wishes verses reality [e.g. fact verses fiction; religious desire verses the real world]. Additionally, one would necessarily have to include and consider the discussions since the late 60's. On "the other side of midnight" though: the site IS used by state, local, U.S., and international governments; courts; researchers, students; and others.. -- MEB http://peoplescounsel.orgfree.com/ BLOG http://peoplescounsel.spaces.live.com/ Public Notice or the "real world" "Most people, sometime in their lives, stumble across truth.
