Monitor Problem Win98 SE
My monitor stopped dispay anything with one computer. It now works fine with
another second computer I purchased. I had to install video drivers to make it work with the new computer. It does appear that the old computer is "working," based on the sounds I hear. Is there a way to tell whether the problem is a result of some Win98 SE setting or it is time to throw away the old Compaq (5 years old)? Thank you. Satish |

It seems the monitor works. If you never see ANYTHING at all on the monitor when it is plugged into the first computer-- not even a logo screen or writings from BIOS--, then check the socket it is plugged into when attached to the 1st computer. Does the monitor have it's own internal settings display from pushing it's settings button, even?
(a) The power outlet there is bad. (b) The data cable is not plugged in right or needs replacing. (c) BIOS is bad & may need a flashing. -- Thanks or Good Luck, There may be humor in this post, and, Naturally, you will not sue, should things get worse after this, PCR "Satish Gupta" wrote in message ... | My monitor stopped dispay anything with one computer. Thank you. I will check the items you mentioned. I wanted to clarify a few
things, in case it matters. 1. The monitor was working fine earlier with the old computer. It stopped working one day. 2. Yes, now we see ABSOLUTELY NOTHING on the monitor (with the old machine). 3. The settings on the monitor were not touched at any time. We did not have to adjust anything to make it work on the second machine. That eliminates those settings as a possible reason. 4. That means, if the computer itself is okay, the problem is in the area where the monitor is connected to the computer. I will look into the three possibilities you listed. Thanks, and Happy Holidays ! Satish "PCR" wrote: It seems the monitor works. Thanks for the clarification, PCR. I will check it out this weekend. Enjoy!
Satish "PCR" wrote: The point about the settings button on the monitor is I think it requires nothing but a power outlet. Once you have determined the monitor does get power, the next suspect is the data cable going to/from the computer. Then, the connector for that cable at the computer end. Finally, the computer BIOS would be the first thing that writes to the monitor, other than possibly something generated by some monitor diagnostics routine. -- Thanks or Good Luck, There may be humor in this post, and, Naturally, you will not sue, should things get worse after this, PCR "Satish Gupta" wrote in message ... | Thank you.
