Default Can't play any avi, mov or video clips

All of a sudden i tried to play some of these files, and no matter what player
is attached to them, they either just play the audio ( no picture ) or
something is always missing. I just reinstalled win98 se and xp. Quicktime says
there is a file missing, and the same for media player. Just like that, they
are all missing something.
