help
Tried to install a "freeware" program today. After I
installed it, it asked if I wanted to restart computer - I saide "yes".... The next thing I know, I get a message stating: "error in loading up IE", then it comes in with a message: "reinstall windows 98". I am missing all the opening command files and all the other stuff I normally have in the tsrs - when I hit alt,Ctl,del - there's nothing there. Is there anyway I can retrieve that info OR reinstall the basic commands for windows98? I don't want to lose the ifo I have in the hard drive. I know it didn't write over all the info I have on the drive -just the opening commands - When I make it to the C drive through DOS, I see all my programs are still in it. Need help. If too long a solution, please e-mail. Thanks, Harry PS - Doesn't recognize cd drive. |

help
Use the Startup Menu to get to Command Prompt Only. At the Command =
Prompt, use the following commands: SMARTDRV SCANREG /RESTORE (space before /RESTORE) Choose a backup from before the freeware installation. If it works, = great, get in there and uninstall the freeware. If not, it's a clue. = Please post back to this thread with results. Might want to add just = what freeware this was. --=20 Gary S.
