Windows Defender does not work with Windows 98. It is for Windows XP
and Windows Vista.

Go to http://free.grisost.com and try their free antispyware.

Good luck

Use this one. It will add no spyware.
http://www.grisoft.com/doc/21/us/crp/0

For some reason, the one linked previously winds up at
http://www.grisost.com/ (note the "t" in place of "f")
and is NOT the one you want.

Default WINDOWS 98 QUESTION!

AVG Anti-Spyware (AVG-AS) does NOT support and will not install on Windows
98/98SE/ME. It only installs on Win2K, XP, and Vista.

FWIW, Grisoft products do not install any spyware or adware.

For detecting and removing spyware and adware on Win9x, use Ad-Aware SE:
http://www.filehippo.com/download_ad-aware/?2466

and SpyBot Search and Destroy:
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html

For trojan horse detection and removal, try Trend Micro's SysClean:
http://www.trendmicro.com/download/sysclean.asp
For this you will also need the latest virus pattern file from he

I would add:

install *Spyware Blaster* from Java-Cool to block much of the spyware
BEFORE it has a chance to install.
