Default Changing Display Properties.

I am trying to change the Font size for various items so that they are the
same size of 10.
I right click the screen/properties and on the Display Properties window
under the Title heading, I select an item like Active Title Bar. I am able
to change the setting from 8 to 10 but when I click apply, the mouse pointer
changes to the little egg timer icon and nothing else happens. If I do
Control/Alt/Delete, the Close Programme window opens high lighting Display
Properties not responding. Clicking End Program lets me resolve it. Although
the correct entry of 10 in this case is in the box, the information is not
kept on restart. Once it did work for some of the settings but most of the
time it did not.
Any clues of how to overcome it and is it possible to bypass the window and
modify the Registry. I should also add that I am running three user profiles
on this PC although I am trying to ensure that the text and font is the same
in all three.
Thanks
Alan

The software that controls Display Properties is the
driver(s) for your video Display Adapter (and possibly
monitor too) seen via MSINFO32 or else
/ start / settings / control panel / system / display manager.
Before doing anything else you should reinstal these:
1. Identify the Display Adapter and look for updated
Win98 drivers on the maker's web site. When you know
you have the latest drivers and where on disk they are stored.
2. In Device Mannager, REMOVE the old adapters and reboot.
3. You should then see that the boot process identifies the
Display Adapter as "new hardware" and asks you to instal
drivers. If the boot goes into Safe Mode you can instal via
/ start / settings / control panel / Add New Hardware
and identify the Display Adapter
and then / Browse to where you put new drivers
(or else Win98 will use the path it stored earlier.)

Then try setting Display the way you want it, and repost here.

Default Changing Display Properties.

Have you done anything involving Group Policies? In the interests of
parental control, perhaps?

In response to both Don and Gary.
The graphics card is a Leadtek Winfast Titanium 500 TD and I do know that I
have been using the latest Nvidia drivers which are not specifically for
98SE, so maybe reverting to the last 98SE driver may be a step forward.
In terms of Group Policies I don't remember actually doing anything on that
front, although I am running the Resource Kit which I know mentions Group
Policies. What is the best way to find out if there is anything set for
this?
Finally, as I have your attention, when I upgrade to XP, should I uninstall
the Resource Kit first or not before attempting the upgrade?
Thanks in advance.

Default Changing Display Properties.

I asked about GPOs just to get the info into this thread. As a matter of
fact, I'm not really savvy about them, myself, though I would presume that
you'd use POLEDIT to find out what's been put into place.

However, as regards Upgrading to XP, I consider your question irrelevant,
since I would never recommend doing an in-place Upgrade. I *always*
recommend a clean install of XP instead. You have to install all new
drivers, anyway, and will likely have to reinstall several of your apps,
also. While I doubt the ResKit would need to be uninstalled, there *might*
be components thereof that could need to be uninstalled, or things that
you've done, like GPOs, might have to be undone before upgrade. The place to
get such questions answered is in XP newsgroups and/or by referring to the
included and online pre-installation documentation.

You're welcome. Good luck with your problem (the one you initially posted
about.) Wish I could have been of more assistance. I'll keep an eye on this
thread and maybe even "look into it"... When I can again see, that is. Broke
my glasses yesterday!
