I am trying to browse a stand alone windows 2000 server on
a windows 98 machine. When I go through Network Neighborhood and then to Work Groups, I can see the server, however when I try to browse it I get a login window asking for a password only ... which password does it want? |

Is it asking for the IPC$ password? If so, Windows 2000 is trying to validate the user name which wants to access its shared disks or folders. There's no correct reply to the IPC$ password prompt. The solution is to create a user account on the Windows 2000 server with the same user name and password that you use to log onto Windows 98. -- Best Wishes, Steve Winograd, MS-MVP (Windows Networking) Please post any reply as a follow-up message in the news group for everyone to see. I'm sorry, but I don't answer questions addressed directly to me in E-mail or news groups.
